El reto​
​
En las últimas décadas, el calentamiento global ha acelerado el aumento de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero a la atmósfera. El CO2 y otros gases nocivos de efecto invernadero (GEI) emitidos por las centrales eléctricas de carbón, los motores de combustión interna, el ganado, los vertederos, etc., han provocado un aumento de las temperaturas en todo el mundo y provocan un cambio climático que afecta a los regímenes de precipitaciones y a la frecuencia de tormentas, olas de calor y de frío que causan devastaciones afectando a millones de personas. El deshielo glaciar en los polos está elevando el nivel del mar y poniendo en peligro a decenas de millones de personas en ciudades costeras e islas. Mientras tanto, ciudades del interior como Ciudad de México están viendo cómo se agotan sus acuíferos.

​El peligro es claro e inminente
​
​
En diciembre de 2015, después de la COP21 en París, se firmó un acuerdo internacional con el objetivo de limitar el calentamiento mundial a muy por debajo de 2, preferiblemente a 1,5 grados centígrados, en comparación con los niveles preindustriales. Seis años después, en la COP26 de Glasgow, las naciones reafirmaron el objetivo del Pacto de París con el compromiso de lograr la Carbono Neutralidad para 2050.
​
Según un informe publicado en 2019 del Panel Intergubernamental sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC), el mundo emitió 59 gigatoneladas de gases de efecto invernadero, un aumento de más del 55 % con respecto a 1990. Basado en datos como estos, John Doerr, un inversionista estadounidense dedicado a la sostentabilidad propone un plan (o realmente una llamada a la acción) en su libro "Speed ​​& Scale: An Action Plan for Solving Our Climate Crisis Now" para eliminar las "59 gigatoneladas" y lograr la neutralidad de carbono en la atmósfera.
Para responder a dicha llamada a la acción y lograr la reducción de carbono y cumplir con los objetivos, se necesitan estrategias internacionales, regionales y locales combinadas con el impulso y el ingenio de empresarios e innovadores.

​El cambio climático es global, pero sus efectos son locales, al igual que muchas de sus soluciones. Buscamos soluciones a nivel de ciudad, y concretamente en Ciudad de México.
​
​​Aquí es donde tú intervienes.
​
Para introducir cambios fundamentales en los sistemas que producen emisiones de carbono se necesitan nuevos productos, servicios, diseños y procesos.
​
En la actualidad, la energía es el factor que más contribuye al aumento de los gases de efecto invernadero. Y, combinada con el transporte, representa más de la mitad de las 59 gigatoneladas que Doerr cita anteriormente.
​
​
Necesitamos una transición energética. Esta transición ya ha comenzado. Necesitamos una revolución del transporte, que también está en marcha.
​
Pero no es fácil. Nuestras infraestructuras son antiguas y están diseñadas para los sistemas actuales, contaminantes. Nuestra mentalidad y nuestras leyes están desfasadas. Los objetivos son fáciles de enunciar y describir, pero los retos que nos impiden alcanzarlos son complejos.
​

El Ideatón de Transición Energética de Ciudad de México es un taller de dos días que reúne a más de 150 personas como tú, procedentes de toda la ciudad y la región, para explorar y definir los problemas y las oportunidades a los que se enfrenta y crea la transición energética.
​
​
El ideatón te guiará a través de procesos para generar ideas y, con suerte, embarcarte en una nueva solución.
The Challenge
​
​
In recent decades global warming has accelerated the increase in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. CO2 and other harmful greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted by coal-fueled power plants, internal combustion engines, livestock, landfills, and more, have caused an increase in temperatures around the world and fuels climate change that affects precipitation patterns and the frequency of storms, heat waves and cold spells that cause havoc to millions of people. Melting polar icecaps are raising sea levels and endangering tens of millions of people in low-lying coasts and islands. Meanwhile, inland cities like Mexico City are seeing their aquifers depleted.

The danger is clear and present
​
​
In December 2015, after COP21 in Paris, an international agreement was signed to reach a goal of keeping average temperatures below 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, and possibly even limiting it to 1.5 degrees. Six years later at the COP26 in Glasgow, nations ratified the commitment to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
​
According to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2019, the world emitted 59 gigatons of GHG, an increase of over 55% from 1990 levels. Based on data like these, John Doerr, an American investor and VC dedicated to sustainability proposes a plan (or really a call for action) in his book "Speed & Scale: An Action Plan for Solving Our Climate Crisis Now" to eliminate all of these "59 gigatons", i.e., achieve carbon neutrality in the atmosphere.
International, regional and local strategies combined with the drive and ingenuity of entrepreneurs and innovators are required to answer the call for carbon reduction and fulfill the demand and goals above.

​Climate change is global, but the impacts are localized as our many of the solutions. We are looking for solutions at the city level, and specifically in Mexico City.
​
​
This is where you enter

New products, services, design and processes are needed to make fundamental changes to systems that produce carbon emissions.
​
Currently, energy is the largest single contributor to an increase in greenhouse gases. And combined with transportation, make up over half of the 59 gigatons Doerr cites above.
​
​
We need an energy transition and it has already begun. We need a transportation revolution and that is also underway.
​
But it is not easy. Our infrastructure is old and designed for current, polluting, systems. Our mindset and laws are outdated. Goals are easy to proclaim, but challenges that prevent us from reaching them are complex.
​
​

The Mexico City Energy Transition Ideathon is a two-day workshop bringing together over 150 individuals like yourself from across the city and region, to explore and frame problems and opportunities that the energy transition faces and creates.
​
​
The Ideathon will guide you through the process of igniting an idea and hopefully embarking on a new solution.
El programa​
​
El Ideatón para una Transición Energética es un taller de dos días dirigido por profesores del MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
​
El ideatón es un programa desarrollado y dirigido por MITdesignX - el centro para el emprendimiento y la innovación de la Escuela de Arquitectura y Urbanismo del MIT, junto con el LCAU, y apoyado por el Laboratorio para Mejorar Nuestras Ciudades de Mota Engil.
​
Los participantes en el programa trabajarán en equipos para identificar, plantear y proponer nuevas soluciones a los retos que enfrenta la transición de energía limpia en la Ciudad de México en estas 6 áreas clave:

En el ideatón se enseñará una nueva metodología creada por MITdesignX para el planteamiento de problemas. También se interactuará con líderes académicos, industriales y cívicos locales.

El taller culminará con presentaciones en equipos, y una muestra de ideas e innovación.
​
Durante la hora de la comida habrá presentaciones por emprendedores de México y Latinoamérica.
​
Además de dos días de intenso trabajo en equipo, escucharás a emprendedores de éxito que se enfrentaron a grandes retos como Covid-19 y la desigualdad bancaria, y que lanzaron sus nuevas empresas.
​

Todos los residentes de la ciudad son bienvenidos a participar en esta exploración de ideas que ayudarán a mejorar y preparar la Ciudad de México para un nuevo futuro impulsado por energías limpias.

Excelente. Eso significa que ya estás interesado y comprometido con el tema. En este ideatón aprenderás nuevas herramientas y conocerás a otras personas con ideas afines. Sólo te pediremos que mantengas una mente abierta y explores nuevas posibilidades antes de volver a tu propio proyecto.
¿Necesito un equipo?

No. Necesitas la energía y la apertura mental de un innovador o emprendedor. Crearemos equipos para el ideatón con los que desarrolléis ideas, planteéis problemas e impulséis nuevas soluciones para mejorar la ciudad, la región y el mundo.​

Como intercambio público de ideas, todo el material es abierto, se presenta y se utiliza para inspirar y fundamentar el desarrollo de soluciones que mejoren la forma en que trabajamos, nos desplazamos, jugamos y vivimos en nuestra ciudad.
The Program

The Energy Transition Ideathon is a two-day workshop led by faculty from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
​
The Ideathon is a program developed and run by MITdesignX - the center for entrepreneurship and innovation at the MIT School of Architecture and Planning, together with the LCAU, and supported by Mota Engil’s Laboratorio para Mejorar Nuestras Ciudades.

Participants in the program will work in teams to identify, frame and propose new solutions to the challenges facing the clean energy transition in Mexico City in these 6 key areas:

You will learn how to use a novel problem framing methodology from the MITdesignX curriculum, and interact with local academic, industry and civic leaders.

The workshop will culminate with team presentations and a showcase of ideas and innovation.

Lunchtime Talks by leading entrepreneurs from Mexico and LatAM
In addition to two days of intensive teamwork, you will hear from successful entrepreneurs who took on major challenges such as Covid-19 and banking inequity by creating new ventures themselves.

Who should attend?​

All residents of the city are welcome to participate in this exploration of ideas that will help improve and prepare Mexico City for a new future powered by clean energy.

What if I am already working on a project related to energy transition?​
​
Excellent. That means you are already interested and committed to the topic. In this ideathon workshop you will learn new tools, meet other likeminded people. We will just ask you to keep an open mind and explore new possibilities before returning to your own project.
Do I need a team?
​
No. You need the energy and openness of an innovator or entrepreneur. We will create teams for the Ideathon and you will develop ideas, frame problems and spark new solutions to improve the city, region and world.
Will my ideas be used?​
​
We hope so, and we hope you are the ones to develop them!
As a public sharing of ideas, all material is open, presented and used to inspire and inform the development of solutions to improve the way we work, commute, play, and live in our city.
